AskMen.com's Top 99 Most Desirable Women is an annual list compiled by AM readers and staff, ranking the famous females deemed to be the year's most alluring. Readers are asked to look beyond sex appeal and beauty to pick women who have the characteristics they value in a potential companion, like intelligence, humor, charisma, and ambition. The result is a list that acts as the definitive gauge for identifying what modern men desire most in their female companions. After a month-long voting period that saw more than 10 million votes cast, the ballots have closed, the tallying is complete, and the Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2009 are ready to be revealed
Start with no. 99...
Rank no.99 Kate Winslet
Why She's No.99
votesBuzz up!As if beauty and talent weren’t enough, Kate Winslet has emerged as a kind of social voice of the “everygirl.” She fearlessly confronts negative body images in the media and bares her own voluptuous ”imperfections” in films like a one-woman show of force for genuine girls everywhere. Her being such a vocal proponent of inner beauty clearly doesn't derive from an absence of physical appeal, as evidenced by her Catherine Deneuve-inspired spread in the December 2008 issue of Vanity Fair.
In early 2009, Kate Winslet appeared in two films based on novels: The Reader, a post-WWII drama, and Revolutionary Road, a film directed by her husband, Sam Mendes, that reunited her with Titanic costar Leonardo DiCaprio. She won a Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe for her role in The Reader and a Best Actress Golden Globe for her role in Revolutionary Road. Read more about Kate Winslet
Rank no.98 January Jones
Why She's No.98
votesBuzz up!January Jones has been on our radar since the Maxim Hot 100 of 2002 list. Her model features make her a winner with guys, including Ashton Kutcher, who dated her from 1998 to 2001. As model-turned-housewife Betty Draper on Mad Men, we've watched her grow stronger through the show's second season, with the third due in 2009.
January Jones also put her looks to manipulative use in 2008 as a sleek con artist for a guest spot on Law & Order. We'll see her incite more desire as a pretty young thing seducing British DJs in the 2009 movie The Boat That Rocked.
Rank no.97 Tina Fey
Why She's No.97
votesBuzz up!Tina Fey’s comedic tongue and inherent cuteness make her intriguingly desirable, and others agree. Maxim previously named the writer and actress one of its Hot 100 Women, while People featured her on its 50 Most Beautiful People list in ‘03. And now she’s made AM’s Top 99. Funny is sexy, and no one knows that better than Tina Fey.
In 2009, we'll see Tina Fey on Season 4 of 30 Rock as well as in the ensemble comedy This Side of the Truth with Ricky Gervais and Jason Bateman. She'll also release her first book, which publisher Little, Brown & Co. reportedly paid $5 million for. If Tina Fey can keep making us laugh, our desire for comedy -- and her -- will stay strong. Rank No.96 Ana Ivanovic
Why She's No.96
votesBuzz up!There’s little doubt that 2008 marked Ana Ivanovic’s breakthrough year, as she successfully managed to break out of the limitations of her sport to become a figure recognized even by those with a minimal interest in tennis. She spent the majority of the year battling opponents in such exotic locales as Sydney, Budapest and Berlin, and although she was forced to pull out of the Summer Olympics after hurting her thumb, Ana Ivanovic’s impressive victory at the French Open Women’s Singles Championship certainly helped take the sting out of that unfortunate injury. Ana Ivanovic’s steady ascent to the top of her field has cemented her place as an athlete worth watching, and her penchant for posing in skimpy outfits has certainly earned her a permanent position within our hearts. Rank No.95 Elizabeth Banks
Why She's No.95
votesBuzz up!Elizabeth Banks' bathtub romp in The 40 Year Old Virgin scared Steve Carell away, but we remember it fondly. 2008 saw her get wild again as the sweet and sexy Miri, prompting the question: Who wouldn't want to make a porno with her? Through her wholesome looks and on-screen sincerity, she also made Laura Bush likable in W.
In 2009, we'll get to see the more villainous side of Elizabeth Banks when she plays a nurse with suspicious motives in the horror remake The Uninvited. No matter how mean she might act, though, we still find her adorable.
Rank No.94 Sophie+Monk
Why She's No.94
votesBuzz up!The ease with which Sophie Monk has managed to transcend her reality-show background is nothing short of staggering, as she’s joined an elite club of ex-contestants that includes such familiar faces as Carrie Underwood and Adrianne Curry. In addition to her ongoing work as a singer, Sophie Monk has also managed to rack up an impressive list of commercial endorsements that includes Diet Vanilla Coke and LG Mobile. There’s little doubt, however, that Sophie Monk’s current focus is entirely on her burgeoning acting career, as she’s already filmed appearances in a whopping six movies that are due to be released within the next several months (including the Amy Poehler/Parker Posey comedy Spring Breakdown).
Rank No.93 Emma Stone
Why She's No.93
votesBuzz up!With her off-kilter looks and sarcastic sensibilities, Emma Stone has effectively cultivated the image of an approachable girl-next-door type -- the kind most guys have known (and probably lusted after) at least once in their lives. She’s certainly perpetuated this notion by taking on roles in a pair of 2008 comedies, The House Bunny and The Rocker, and her upcoming gigs will only strengthen her appeal and confirm her impending superstardom. She’ll first be seen alongside Noureen DeWulf as one of the title characters in the Matthew McConaughey/Jennifer Garner romcom The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, then she'll segue into her very first starring role in Paper Man. There’s little doubt that Emma Stone’s days as a bit player are coming to a swift end, as she’s primed to join the ranks of such famously funny ladies as Kate Hudson and Meg Ryan.
Rank No.92 Alicia Keys
Why She's No.92
votesBuzz up!No offense intended, but the resumes of some women considered beautiful in our culture are a bit lacking. Heiress? Reality TV star? Then you’ve got Alicia Keys -- a singer, songwriter, pianist, cellist, author, producer, and actress with multiple Grammy Awards under her belt. Her silky vocals and classic looks have made her a superstar, one truly deserving of the fame, fortune and everything else that comes with the territory. Alicia Keys doesn’t run over paparazzi, get arrested or date thuggish point guards -- she just keeps her head down and makes great music. And there are few things sexier than that. Rank No.91 Danica Patrick
Why She's No.91
votesBuzz up!Danica Patrick makes racing hot. Maxim, FHM and People have included her on their respective Hot 100, 100 Sexiest Women and 100 Most Beautiful People lists, and her overall popularity is sky-high. Often compared to Anna Kournikova, Danica Patrick actually has the talent to match her beauty.
In 2008, she enjoyed 9 top-10 finishes -- good enough for a 6th-place ranking in the Indy Racing League. The highlight was a first-place finish at the Indy Japan 300, as Danica Patrick was the first woman ever to achieve this. 2009 will bring more top-10 races and new adventures on the American A1 Grand Prix Team. Danica Patrick was also featured in the 2009 edition of SI's Swimsuit Issue.
Rank No.90 Britney Spears
Why She's No.90
votesBuzz up!When you get low enough, the only direction you can go is up. And that’s just what Britney Spears did in 2008. After taking a much-needed break from the public eye, Spears released a comeback album, Circus, in late 2008. The first single, “Womanizer”, went to No. 1 and showed the world that Britney was back. The television special Britney: For the Record also gave audiences a glimpse into her life, painting Britney Spears as a victim of our celebrity-obsessed culture. So is she on this list out of guilt? No, she’s on this list because, all of a sudden, Britney's desirable again.
